History of SudokuThe earliest puzzle resembling Sudoku appeared in French newspapers around the late 19th century, then referred to as magic squares. They thrived for about a decade, but disappeared around World War I. In 1979, the first modern Sudoku puzzle was published by Dell Magazines, but under the name "Number Place". It wasn't until five years later when the puzzle was introduced in Japan as "Suji wa dokuskin ni kagiru", which was later shortened to "Sudoku". Since then, Sudoku has exploded in popularity and Sudoku online has also swelled in prominence. Now, Wordplays.com offers this smash hit puzzle online, right here, in two variations: number sudoku and word sudoku.
